Depends on how well it was taken care of and how much they want for it.

Force has been around for a LONG time.
They were called Chrysler,Seaking,Force,Sears,Montgomery Ward and more.
Just do a compression test it should be close on all cylinders and look at the gear oil,no water or chunks.J

Test that all the electrical is working (interior lights, nav, anchor, etc.), that all fuses are in place, and the blower and bilge are working. Ensure the oil looks like oil and the engine runs smooth, and check for oil in the bilge. Any excuses for the lack of operation should be a sign they are hiding a problem that may be too costly for you to mess with.

Post some pictures and the price they want for it.

Good luck!

It is not like a Yugo or a Chevette or a Triumph. It is basically a good design. If you start with a good engine and do your own maintenance it is simple, durable, and affordable. But if somebody did not take care of it and you start with a bad engine then it is just one big headache.

A bayliner with a Force motor that is in decent shape can be a great value since a lot of people think they are not any good. Great, I hope they keep thinking that way. It can get you out on the water without spending a lot of money. I love mine.

Thanks Sidenberg
I do love it this is my 2nd boat and after I was told to hold in the key for 8 sec before starting it it ran like a champ and fired right up every time.

With proper care and maintenance it should last you a long time. My boat has a 78 chrysler on it.

You are buying an entry level unit there...both on the boat and on the motor. :)
The Force motors are primitive by comparison to pretty much all the others. Its design is probably from the late 60's early 70's which is why is became very inexpensive to produce and resell as part of a showroom package.;)
If both the boat and motor have a good history they will last for as long as you will probably need....BUT, keep an eye out for parts on the Force, buy a manual, learn about it because if you want to save some money you will and can do the maintenance.
My two bits.

Agreed, if you take care of a Force, they'll run forever, if you're lax on taking core of it - it'll screw you everytime.

I own a 1987 14 foot with a 50 hp Force. I will trade up as soon as I can. Good starter boat, but that's about it.
