Thinking of replacing my Ficht

I have a 98 20' Whaler Outrage that has a 1998 175hp Ficht on it. I am considering getting another motor (see my other recent posts to understand why)

I'd like to know what engine would be the best to swap it out with? If I went with an E-Tec would I have to change out the entire wiring harness to the dash?

Is there a Johnson out there that would be an easy swap out?

I'm not interested in buying a new motor as I don't have the $13-16K laying around so I am searching for something pre-owned.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The Ficht wiring and controls will work with an E-Tec if you get one. Also an old Johnson carbed model would work good.

Re: Thinking of replacing my Ficht

The control box wiring harnesses are the same from 1996 and later. The particular model Ficht which gave that whole product line a bad name was the 60-degree looper up through 1999. Specifically the 150/175 engine. While many ran just fine, many more caused major problems for their owners. By 2000 Bombardier had re-engineered these 60 degree engines and that year (and later) were ok. The larger 90-degree block Fichts did not have the myriad of problems of their smaller 60-degree brothers.
