Been looking at Higher HP pontoons and Deck Boats. No dealer will even look at my 76 Holiday for trade in. The dealer that does all of my service told me it would only trade in for $500-$700. I know I could sell it privately for much more, but not sure where my starting point would be. I would think a minimum of $2550 would be a good deal. I just towed this 600 miles round trip from IN to TN and back and ran over 80 miles on Norris Lake with no problems. It just seems strange that book would be so low on a boat that is so solid.

Thanks for any input.

I have a 1976 22 Holiday that I would not even sell for less than $8k 200 hp O/B. Excellent boat on the ocean I will put 100 mil s on it in a weekend,

That's a real clean Holiday. The general issue is that closed bows aren't that desirable. I don't think any manufacturers even make one right now. What your boat has going for it is that it's (presumably) turn key ready to go. When you sell it, do your best to emphasize its water readiness. Include a video of it on the water, lots of big current pictures. I sold my 16' closed bow Jupiter in the fall for $2100 which is way more than I thought I could get. I was going to list it for $1500 but a fellow iboater convinced me to list it for $2250 OBO. I didn't get a lot of interest but the one guy who was interested, went for a test drive with me and bought it. I'd start at at least $3500 for yours if you're not in a hurry to sell it. It only takes 1 person!! Someone may be real tired from having gone to look at a bunch of junk on CL and when they see yours ready to go they'll jump on it. Good luck! Remember you can add pretty much any content to a CL ad as long as it's hosted somewhere else like photobucket or the like.

I agree with EZ totally. Especially the part about posting a video. I'd recommend 2, one of a good walk around of the boat and motor and one in operation. Lot's of pictures are good as well. It really boosts a buyers interest in your boat when you give them tons of information and proof you have an operational boat. The reason dealers can get more for used boats is that they have a location that you can bring the boat back to and a reputation to uphold. When a buyer buys from a private party, he doesn't have that so you have to go out of your way to ease his fears that he isn't buying a lemon. If you can do that, you can get more money for your boat. It might take a couple of hours to make a video and post it, but you will sell your boat quicker and for more money so it really is worth it.

LOL the dealer will give you 500-700 and turn around and re-sell that boat with an asking price of $4995....... let someone talk him down to $3500 and the guy thinks he has a great deal when the dealer is still making 3K profit!!

Sell it privately and buy another boat privately for your best deal.

Bob_VT is right. Sell it privately and then get your new one.

Re: Thinking of Selling......

Thanks again for all the replies. I just picked up a new float last night (1994 Chaparral Sunesta 220), and will be selling the Starcraft soon. Hope the folks on the Chaparral side are as nice and as helpful as you Starcraft folks have been!!!!!

If you know anyone in Indiana looking for a nice older ride, let me know.

Thanks again

You need to post the boat on CL in the Toledo and Sandusky, Oh. areas. There's a big market for that type of rig around here. I paid close to 4k for mine and it was not as clean as yours when I got it. A pontoon though??? Seriously?? Never seen one handle big water like a Starcraft design and never will. Good luck though.

Yeah, picked up a 22' Deck boat. Didn't get it home until late friday night and insurance place was closed all weekend. All I got to do was clean it up and pretend that I was boating in the driveway. hahaha. All set now, just waiting for the weekend to take a cruise. Was running about 45 on the test drive.
