This doesn't look right....to me anyways

I was stumbling through Craigslist, and saw this picture of a boat being sold. It is the only picture in the ad. Now I am a large man. I push 310lbs, but I cannot imagine being solo in the front of a boat and having it sit in the water this way. Doesn't it just seem like it is listing too much to the bow regardless of the size of the individual??

You're right. It obviously needs a bigger engine to offset the weight in the front. :-D

Definately not right. Looks like a DeepV 16 and I can't see how you could put enough weight in the bow to lift the transom completely out of the water. Maybe the skeg ran aground?

the transom isn't completely out of the water... only the outermost edges

If you look at the scum line the stern has only come up 6-8 inches

fella has a pretty good size fuel tank on him, and that looks like its probably only a 40 horse, most likely 2 cylinder 2 stroke so its light.

add to that a trolling battery up front, or a livewell full of water waiting for the days catch, i see his cooler in front of the console, and a pretty good size anchor hanging off the bow also.

all that together it gets bow heavy pretty fast on a 16 ft boat

It does look a little bow heavy with him on the casting pedestal seat but who knows what else is stored in the front storage compartments?
Maybe there's a live well that's full or a compartment full of ice and beer?
If it were just a case of the foam being water logged I think the whole boat would be riding lower, and the added weight up front wouldn't be lifting the stern like that.
I've got a similar Sea Nymph boat and I doubt if my 325lbs could make the bow set that low even with the trolling motor and front compartments filled, but there can be big differences between hull brands in how they take weight and handle.

Nope that's about right. We see a lot of those around here and they are small, light boats (about 15-16' perhaps?). He has got to be about my size (285lbs) and I bet it would do the same if I was in it.

he just has way too much stuff up front.

Those high chairs are a lake-fishing device. You never see them on the coast, except when lake-fishermen move here (lots of our Navy guys are from the mid-west. Easy to spot). They are dangerous if there is any chop.

Also the photo presents a good opportunity for a safety message: if you can't climb back in your boat from deep water by yourself, have a swim step installed or hang-over ladder where you can reach it. Forget the kids; you need it.

Looks normal to me. Light boat, light motor and bubba hanging over the front

If he has a 300# wife sitting at the stern it would balance everything out,,,,, or sink the boat.

Thats funny.....:)
But it seems to be true. Usually a large man like that will have a large companion. I don't recall seeing many men that large with a scrawny wife.

It does happen though...

Re: This doesn't look right....to me anyways

Many of the trolling motors run on 2-3 batteries, mine has 2-12 volts tied theatergoer for a 24 volt system, my old boat had a 36 volt motor/system, and all up front! Add the guy and everything else mentioned and you have what you see. The boat pictured is a small, much smaller than my Spectrum, and it's very light too. They build them that way on purpose, but as stated they are inland boats, and cant take the pounding of the coastal, or even the great lakes where I fish.

I've seen a guy over 350lbs do less damage than that in a 12 foot aluminum boat. His front livewell is probably full and I'll bet there's a case or two of beer hiding in the storage compartments.

Looks normal for that boat rigged that way with that guy in front.
It's light and I bet the person capacity is less than 600 lbs.

I have a very large buddy with a very petite wife. We joke around that she slaps his belly and rides the wave in...
