Re: This has to be a scam, right?

Saw a similar ad for a boat here in the Dallas, TX area on craigslist. I thought the price was too good to be true and asked about the boat. It's funny because I got the EXACT same response that you did. That's when I knew it was a scam. LOL

I actually had one scammer when I was looking this summer propose shipping the boat to me from it's location 1/2 hour away! I kept a couple of her emails (shown below) if it helps anyone out. That Chaparral was nice though LOL.

The boat is still for sale....It is in outstanding condition . There are no structural or electrical problems with this boat. Both hull and interior in nice condition .No mechanical issues with this engine at all. It starts easily and restart easily all day. It has ALWAYS been properly maintained and never run hard or abused. the boat gets it's oil changed twice a year. For the winter, the boat always gets acid washed on the bottom to remove any algee ..Trailer is in very nice condition and the tires are almost new with plenty of tread left. The seats and all the interior is in like new condition and has no fading, tears, stains ,mildew etc. It has a clear and clean title, free of all liens and encumberances.

I have to let you know that i left town a few days ago because i have to help my daughter organize her wedding, and i may stay here a while, but this is no problem because i`ll sell it through NAT services. I guess you used NAT before, if you didn`t let me know because i met people that never used it and i will explain how it works in detail. I want to sell it now because i need the money for my daughters wedding so if you are interested in buying it now let me know.

I said I was still interested but didn't understand the NAT process, so here's the process:

I'm pleased you are still interested. Like i said before i'll explain the Net Assistant Trader concept,
their website is www.netassistanttrader.com . They are a chain of ebay drop off stores and they offer their services for craigslist users too. I left the boat in their possession when i left and intended to sell it when i got back (if you ask why i'm selling it now when i'm not around), but the wedding costs too much and i need to sell it now to help my daughter get married.. They will take care of shipping, payment and title transfer(it is already signed by me and notarized so they are empowered to do this ). So if you want to purchase the boat, all you have to do is to register on their website. After you are registered with them an invoice will be sent to you. There you will find out more details about this sale like how to complete the payment, shipping process, insurance, etc .Afterward you have to complete the payment. They receive the payment and start the shipping process. You receive the boat and you have 10 days to inspect it and see if it's exactly as described. If you decide to keep it, you let them know and they will transfer the payment to me, if you decide to return it, they will give you a full refund back and return the item on my cost. So you can be sure the boat is exactly as described because i wouldn't sell something that i know it will be returned and loose extra money. The shipping cost is already included in the price listed on craigslist so you don't have to worry about that. The process is very simple, it probably looks a little complicated from what i explained but it's not and for a better understanding of how their service works you can check out their "Selling on Craigslist" page. I would advise you to read the Selling on Craigslist page before you register so you can be sure you understand how the process works. Let me know if you are still interested and if you have questions please ask, no problem. Also, if you don't want to register on their website for any reason, you can send me your full name and shipping address and i will forward it to them, but it's better if you register yourself.

Thank you

PS: I am sorry for the long email but i couldn't explain the process in less words.

Here's my last reply to her which she never replied to:

You listed the boat as being located in Akron and I live less than 1/2 hour away from there, there's no shipping needed. Since you left it with "Net Trader". I'd be happy to meet them in person for payment and transfer of title. You must think I'm naive to propose me sending that company $8600 "and wait for shipment" LOL. How about you send me $5000 as proof of your credibility, and then I'll refund it when I see the boat?
Sound good? Hope "The Wedding" goes well!

It was great. Right after we bought our RX-1, I found it listed on Craigslist AND E-Bay. Same pictures, same everything as the guy's ad that we bought from. Pictures even showed the metal building on the guy's lot. I'll see if I can locate it.....

Sounds a lot like the other one you were looking at, but a foot longer and a year older. Could very well be a scam, but wait for the reply to make sure. Obviously only deal in cash in person.

Re: This has to be a scam, right?

The guy got back to me via email. Here's what he said. Scam for sure! Read on:

Still for sale but unfortunately I am not home right now because my brother had a car accident two days ago and he's still under observation so I had to run over and take care of my nephew until he recovers. The doctors said he is doing OK and he is recovering fast so that's a good news. I don't mean to impose, but I was just explaining my situation. I am selling it through EZT so the fact that I am not home does not affect the transaction in any way. I guess you know what EZT is if you buy or sell online often but if you didn't came across it no problem, I'll be happy to walk you through the process myself. Let me know if you are still interested and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks

Wow! Didn't see that coming. So, do you think the ebay listing is the real deal?

Personally I wouldn't purchase anything off of CL or E-Bay, or any other site unless I can lay my hands on it before I give up the money.

this is a scam.....obviously

Yeah the E-Bay ad is legit, as N. Georgia Ford is the salesperson on E-Bay. Here is the boat on the dealers website.

what e-bay ad are you talking about?....possibly the one the above was photo shopped from????

Re: This has to be a scam, right?

We wnet through this type of thing when the wife was looking for a convertible. She found a Mercedes SL280 she realy liked, but the car was in Newfoundland (we were in Alberta). The seller was in California visiting her sick aunt. But we had a leg up on the seller. A friend works for the DMV here in Newfoundland. So we calld her and asked if this car was registered in Newfoundland. Turns out there were some cars registered but none in the town she mentioned. We aslo asked the seller where the car was since we have brothers and sisters here. We would get one of them to come check out the condition of the car before we bought it. The car went from being registered to being instorage and only she ahd access to the storage locker the car was in.

Needless to say she got an nastgram from the wife about what kind of lowlife she was... and we didn't lose any money.

Re: This has to be a scam, right?

I sometimes like to play with these guys so I just sent the following e-mail to this scammer. If get a reply I'll start asking him if the boat will pass Mexican pollution control testing (There is no such thing). Then I'll ask if it has a Sodium Based catalytic converter as required by Mexican law, etc.

Sometimes you can string these turkeys along for quite a spell before they get frustrated and give up. We'll see what this guy does.

Oh, yeah, you might want to look up the word Callipygian if your dictionary if you don't already know what it means

I might be interested in this boat. I am in San Jose de Batuc, Sonora, Mexico but I have an associate in North Carolina who can check it out for me. If he approves the transaction I will transfer the funds, but only if you can arrange shipment of the boat to me here in Mexico.

I am the director of a Christian Fellowship Ministry here and need such a boat for my missionary work. Please let me know whether you can arrange shipping for me and how much extra it will cost over the cost of the boat alone.

Sincerely,

Rev. Melvin Taylor A.C.E, Phd, S.oS
First Church of the Exalted Callipygian Sisterhood Christian Fellowship Ministry

Re: This has to be a scam, right?

I had a friend who was a computer guru, when he got wind of a scam he send the perpetrator an email with a virus attached which allowed him access to the perpetrators computer and he would have a field day with them before he destroyed their machine. He has moved to DC couple of years ago, got a great offer from the gov. (guess they figured if you can't beat them might as well hire them ). I'll send him this cl add. I really hate these scammers and wish the law enforcement would go after these guys, unfortunately most of them are outside US borders.

I would reply with, no problem, when and where can I see the boat. I often play with these morons. Lead them on like I am actually interested. Then use the line that I always get when I try to sell things. I am ok with the price. I would like to send you a certified check for $5000 over the asking price because you already have it made out and cannot get it remade. All I ask is that once you recieve it please use the extra money to pay for the shipping to Nigeria, and send me a money order back for the differance. LOL.
