I had trouble this weekend with my trim on my 1999 johnson 70. It was stuck in the down position and kept running. It finally ran the battery down. Once i recharged the battery it seemed to be working fine, going up and down, then I opened up the case and found a partially cut (broken) power wire. After jiggling it around the trim started acting up again. (Pics below)While i dont know how this could have possible happened it did. Question is do i need to change it or can it be spliced back together? If i have to change it, is it a big job and expensive wire??? <br />Thanks!!!!<br /> power wire <br /> power wire close up

Looks pretty close to the what looks like a solenoid terminal. You could perhaps <br />cut the cable where it is broken and crimp a new ring terminal on if the cable is long enough to reach.<br />Solder everything if you can.<br />Failing that just cut, splice and solder where its damaged and sleeve with some heat shrink which would be available from any good electronics store.<br /><br />It sounds like the solenoid may be stuck on if the pump keeps running. The earthed power cable that you damaged may have fried the solenoid at the same time?<br /><br />Good luck with it.<br /><br />Tads

Anyone have any idea how this wire could have gotten cut like that? Its always enclosed, and I have only taken the cover off twice to look inside. I did have it service last winter.

It's possible the the battery cable could have gotten hot at one time and damaged the covering. Do the wire strands still look good?<br /><br />I agree with Tads. Easiest thing to do is put a new terminal end on it and cover it with shrink.<br /><br />If the TNT motor still continues to act up, swap the up and down relays around and see if it does the same thing in the up position. If she does, get a new relay.
