I picked up a Marlin 213 with what looks to be a mercruiser 140 motor and mercruiser alpha 1. Im pretty new to marine engines but have restored and rebuilt alot of cars. I dont know much background on this boat, I received it through a storage auction so I had no contact with the previous owner. It looks like when it was in storage it got completely vandalized(all windows broken, interior trashed, parts stolen). This looks pretty bad and suggestions and help would be great.

I dont think it has run in atleast 5 years and im prepared to replace the motor if need be. Should I replace with the same motor or go bigger or even outboard? the outdrive seems to be in very good shape considering the rest of the boat

You should just post in a single thread for a given topic. . . I responded to your other thread.

Profile, location?? You might be close to someone who can help??
It looks like most parts are there. The riser is an easy purchase. The drive and prop is there and that's a BIG expense.
Maybe get an experienced marine mechanic who's smart to look at it??
First thing try to turn it over. Was it uncovered all the time? If so, the intake would get water in and it would leak into the valves.
I've fixed motors like that. One sat outside and it was siezed.
Marvel Myster Oil, or tranny fluid in the cylinders and let it soak.
Finnaly it turned over, rebuilt the head and a few other things and it was up and running.
A bit of blowby at fist then the rings freed up and it was running the last time I saw it 10 years ago,

Originally I thought it might be a volvo motor, sorry about that

I just joined the forum, gotta figure out how to add that but im in los angeles, boat is being stored in irvine. I think im going to contact few mechanics from craigslist to see if they can just give me a once over and a detailed write up of what needs to be done.

Im not sure how long that cover was off of the motor. Im going to try to get alittle more info from the storage yard about when it was vandalized, I cant imagine the owner would have been dumb enough to leave the motor uncovered since the engine cover is there. Luckily in socal it doesnt rain too much.

Thats just a bracket that a rod hooks to to steer the kicker motor when fishing. The oil line keeps the drive oil level topped off.

Cleaned up a bit, looks 1000x better then when I first got it(atleast in person). Waiting on the paperwork from the auction company and once in my name will start figuring out what will truly happen to it. I did find a nice 200hp outboard that I could steal from this guy for about $800 but doing the inboard to outboard swap looks like a whole new list of headaches.

here are some updated pics...
