I recently purchased a brand new 2008 Bayliner 246 Discovery, even tho my girlfriend hates me for it. awesome deal on it. anyway
The boats been at my slip for two weeks, 12 hours on the engine.
This Monday night a 40 foot boat came into our marina to be dry docked for the winter and doesnt call the marina, he just desides to put the boat anywere with out any help, all by himself and he smacks into my boat.
Thousands of dollars worth of damage.
I show up at the marina to access the damage and call the harbor master
and he tells me its not bad ,ITS JUST THIS'
It gets better, this guy was supposed to bring his insurance papers with
him, because marinas dont let boats there without insurance.
Well he doesnt have insurance, the boat isnt registed and witnesses told me when he hit my boat he didnt even stop, he kept going backwards and ripped my boat right off the cleats on the dock, turning my boat all the around facing the other way.
'ITS JUST THIS HE TELLS ME'
this takes the cake
thank for listening to me vent

OUCH......DEEP BREATH......and hopefully you have called your insurance company. I feel the marina may want to back out of any responsibility, however you want to properly secure your boat and get the powers to be to start talking to each other. What a b*tch....at least no one was aboard or got hurt...:(

Take pictures, get a notebook. Keep the pictures, anytime you talk to anyone involved in this...ie: harbor master, marine police, insurance guys...ANYBODY WHO SAW WHAT HAPPENED write it down. By the way my understanding isif there is more than a certain dollar amount of damage...IT HAS TO BE REPORTED. Anyway what a sleeze to not step up after creaming someone's boat. Oh, and you may want to get a professionally certified marine surveyor to give his opinion on the damage. Good Luck.

PS I might be tempted to mention the name of the establishment where the dockmaster says it's only this, But that would be me.

thats gotta hurt...........i bet if you were to run into either one of those guys vehicles they wouldnt have thought "its just this".

vindictive as it may sound i would post the marina name and let everyone who has a slip there decide for themselves if their boat is safe there.........and the guy that hit my boat......he better come off with some cash somehow real quick, or meat me in court.........you shouldnt have to pay higher insurance prices just because this guy is a *********.(add what you like i couldnt think of a low enough insult)

Thats just messed up. Not your fault, you have insurance, they will go after him for the bill.

Oh yea the marina might say they got nothing to do with it but they do, and they know it.

Me i wouldn't want the boat anymore i would want a replacement, exact one that was totaled.

Sorry that your new boat was hit. If it's real bad and your policy has replacement value hopefully you can get a new boat. I guess even in a slip your boat is not safe! Unfortunately from what I've read in other threads especially with multiple parties involved it may be a long process.

At least with winter coming you won't miss your boating season.

Not insured I can understand, because a lot of wealthy people are "self insured". If he can afford a 40ft boat, he can afford to pay your damages.

BUT... Not registered is another thing all together. Time to call the coast guard and lodge a complaint against this idiot. CG doesn't take kindly to that sort of blatent disregard of the law.

My boat still has liability insurance on it. Costs less than $100 per year.

thats not entirely true..........i have a cousin with a big boat and he named it "balls deep"...........cause thats about the situation he was in by the time it was all said and done .

imo boat/auto insurance is fraud!!................you pay them thousands of dollars over years and years and when you make a claim they increase your rates or cancel you.................what happened to all the money you gave them all these years?..............what service do they really give you for all the money?..........seems to me they use all your money to buy lawyers so they DONT have to pay your claims.

sorry i got off the main subject.........been burnt by insurance companies before.............
