I wonder why they don't use rotenone (fish poison)on the Chicago shipping channel and the Illinois river in the infested areas. Sure it would kill all fish but to keep those things out of the Great Lakes would be worth it. Once in the lakes it would be all over for anything else.

They were brought in by catfish farmers down south to clean their ponds. They excaped during floods in the 1990's.

This looks like a great opportunity for a new industry. Asian Carp dog and cat food. Fertilizer, etc. Isn't fish meal great for plants? There seems to be an endless supply of these carp. Why aren't we utilizing this great resource?

There'a guy in AR who is catching them, grinding 'em up and selling them as fish patties to zoos. Seems the polar bears dig 'em. Several other guys are selling them to Asian/American markets (Chinatown). One official suggested feeding them to prisioners.

it's gonna be a interesting year boating on the missouri i think. these darn fish are at the mouth of the platt river where it connects to the missouri. that's 5 miles south of where i put in at at bellvue ne. i've not seen any yet, don't want to. but wouldn't be surprised if i do. what a drag that's gonna be. just hope i don't get busted for fishin w/o a lic. if the man stops me and finds carp parts in my boat......

Our town reservoir is totally overun by carp, not the Asian type, they ruined a once great bass fishery. I have tried to get a local nursery to sponsor a carp tournament with no entry fee, no number of fish limit, heaviest sack winner. The nursery would get to keep all the carp brought to the weight-in in return for their prize money. Saddly, they haven't bought into it. Put a couple of fish on the bottom of a pot with top soil on top of them. You will be amaze at the growth rate and size of your plant.
