The amnesia effect may have something to do with the dosage, but there's no doubt that the drug does cause amnesia.
Hello, keep that stuff away from me then. I have trouble remembering what happened yesterday.:D:D

Be fair. Quit portraying the story like the cops are shooting up people with a drug off the street. The drug, an approved drug for the intended use, is being administered by medical professionals, who evaluate the patient and make the ultimate decision to medicate.

Unfortuneately, that is not the case, it is being administered by the cops themselves, and there is no reason to believe that they wouldn't use it on anyone off the street.

How are you concluding from this story that police are raping women?

Because cops are human beings, ergo, not all cops are going to be good people, PLUS, there have already been plenty of cases where cops have raped women, this drug just makes it easier for them to get away with it.

Hmmmmm. By that logic, SgtMaj, issueing guns to police officers is going to have them sticking up convenience stores.

It's funny that you should use that as an example, one of my neighbors (a sheriff's deputy) just pled guilty about a year ago to armed robbery of 5 banks. Feel free to google it, his name is Jim Frye.

I see no way to connect the legal use of Versed to "calm" unruly and violent prisoners and the illegal use of Versed by evildoers to "calm" rape victims.

As an alternative to beating heck out of the prisoners and risking injury to officers it sounds to me like a very good idea.

It's not an alternative to anything, because the person has to already be subdued in order to administer it. If the person is already subdued, why are you using any drug on them to subdue them, let alone a date rape drug?

I'm not against using whatever force necessary to subdue an out of control suspect, but, This sounds like a civil rights violation to me! What, the tazer is not effective enough?

My thoughts exactly... and I would have no problem with an officer shooting someone that was out of control to the point that a tazer didn't work on them.

and that's to say nothing of how it might taint a confession of a real criminal.

Second, I've had Versed and it doesn't induce complete amnesia, just a twilight state. Some you don't remember completely, some you do. For me, it compressed 20 minutes into what seemed 5.

That all depends on the dosage...

Third, if it's a human rights violation, then a taser would be actual torture.

The use of a tazer as a method of making someone suffer and not as a means to subdue someone that you would otherwise have to shoot is already defined in law as torture, and there have been cases where cops have been convicted of it... so, what was your point there?

While my reading skills are pretty poor

It says the EMT is making the call with there command ;)

The issue here is that the drugs are being distributed to the cops to administer... If only EMT's were doing it, they wouldn't need the cops to be in posession of the drug, as I'm sure any ambulance already has a dose of it on board.

Lock this thread!

Lock this thread!

So I'm catching up on the news tonight, and I come across an article from a respected news source about how cops in my state are being given the date rape drug Versed to use on prisoners. This is absolutely asinine! The excuse they have is that it's used to subdue unruly prisoners, but it can't be administered until a person is already subdued, so that's a bunch of bunk. I am absolutely outraged that such a thing could happen in this country. You can read the story for yourself here: http://www.wsmv.com/news/16844880/detail.html

You can bet I'm going to give my elected representatives a piece of my mind first thing in the morning...

You need to re-read the link you posted. Here are a few quotes from the article which really should have been proof-read to correct the spelling before it was published.

For almost two years, Metro police have had the option of calling for a needle loaded with a strong sedative to control the most unruly people they encounter on the street.

When a Taser didn't work on Beasley, police turned to a brand new protocol -- an injection of Versed. Officers called emergency medical personnel for the injection.[/
COLOR]

The decision to administer Versed is based purely on a paramedic decision, not a police decision," Slovis said

I failed to find the drug compared to being a date rape drug anywhere in the article.

I think the Mods need to lock up this thread because the primary purpose appears to be instigate.
