I grew up with the Thompson brand being a fairly good brand but I am thinking of upgrading to a 30 plus foot cruiser and have found quite a few used Thompsons out there. I actually thought that Thompson went out of busness. As I am looking at buying used, I would rather buy quality that is older than newer lower quality IMO.

I took a job that has me gone all week and I just want to get a boat that is in the water and ready to go when I get home and not have to hook up a trailer load the boat, fight the launch ramp, etc. I am looking at a lot of different brands but I am looking exclusively at fresh water boats only.

Carvers, Cruisers, Silverton, Thompson, are some the brands that have hit the screen recently.

Anyone know anything I should know about these brands? The boats are in the 1988-1994 vintage.

Re: Thompson boats

I own a Cruisers and theyre good boats, I looked at a thompson before buying the cruisers but since theyre out of business it wuld be hard to get help with it because threres no one to call. and also Cruisers originally was the same company as Thompson and if you look at a older cruisers boat and an older thompson boat they look similar.

Re: Thompson boats

I currently have an 88 25ft cruisers rogue. (branded as a barneget 2460 but not the same as the old 22 barneget hull became the rogue.) I like it alot but sticking to the one brand limits my possibilities and variety is the spice of life. This is not to say I wouldn't buy another cruisers. I just some a couple of Mid 90's Thompsons and wondered what they were all about. I didn't know the two were related in days gone by.

What model cruisers do you have?
