borrowed one from work today....really really nice unit..

nothing Id ever fork over $700 for, but glad the company had it to use.

wanted to try and verify if the temp gauges and senders are REALLY working right..

ran on muffs... and was suprised the motor wouldnt get warm..

I ran it for 15 minutes at 1000 rpm and the temps would not budge the bottom of my gauge(120)... pushed the throttle to 1500 and she started to climb ..

one head got to 130 on the top cylinder and only 125 on the lower

the other head the top cylinder went to 127 and the bottom went to 120

the infared thermometer is so precise...i can check spots as small at a quarter all around the motor!!!!

do I have really good cooling and or cold water from the faucet??

water pump is 1 week old!!

or is this supposed to be where the temps are at 1000-1500 rpms???

gonna take the boat out after work or on the weekend to run her at WOT and try and get a reading

I dont even think the t-stats opened!! total run time on muff was about 25 minutes

Yes those thermal guns are nice. They used to be pricey when they first came out. Now they are around 30 bucks.

I checked out a thermal camera from work, talk about nice........:)........
but they are way to pricey for me.

I got a tiny keychain infra red from harbour freight for $7, works a charm.

a few months back i was in home depot looking for a unit and they $40 models were sold out, all they had was $90 models....didnt want to pay that then...

but that $20 unit tasha posted looks perfect for the mechanic

the unit from work needs to be very accurate for high temp readings....

its a RAYTEK

what do you guys think about the head temperature numbers????

and could a spark plug with a wrong gap cause the temps to be higher in once cylinder over another??

is a temp difference of any significance between heads and or even cylinders on a head, a way to see a possible lean condition???

Try swapping sparkplugs around, coil swap too.
Or maybe its the water diverters moved.

If the hot side has lower compression then air leak = lean = hotter.
