Been having power problems. If you seen my other threads they explain the problem (I'm tired of typing it lol) anyway pulled my fuel gauge unit out and looked inside the tank. The bottom of the tank was brown looking like what others on here called varnish from ethonol. My question is, is it suppose to look like that or is it supposed to be clear? The fuel appears to be clear but all the junk is at the bottom. Boat runs like crap/ spit sputter blah blah. Anyway should the tank be like that? Gonna change my filter and see how she runs hope that the carb and pump are still OK. Thanks for everbodies help on here.

Being as you have clear access to the sending unit, elevate the boat to get all the junk to the aft end of the tank, remove the sender and pump out all that crud with a hand-squeeze pump similar to the type used with kerosene heaters. Rig up an extension on the discharge side and you my just be able to start a siphon to a container off-hull.
Don't even think about using an electric pump/vac that close to the fuel.
Allow the recovered fuel to settle and re-use it in the lawnmower, family ride, etc.
Swab the more-or-less empty tank with alcohol or acetone to remove debris and dry the tank.

Before you change the filter you should pull the tank and get it cleaned out. Then a new filter and the problem should be gone.

Thanks for the replies guys. I got another worry and that is what is the potential of having already sucked a bunch of junk through the pump and carb. Will that be my next problem? I think the junk is from the ethonol and I don't know if that would've mucked up everything else in the little time I've ran it. I'm assuming that I can run a seperate can with a new filter to check this and see if the boat runs like it did the first 10 minutes I had it cause it's been a nightmare since. Very Very frustrating. So if anyone thinks that's a good or bad idea please let me know. Again thanks for everyones help. Think I'm on the right track if not I'll go to points etc.
