Hey there fellow iboaters, I have been thinking long and hard about a new project boat and I need some different perspectives. I hope you guys will just fill this thread with your ideas.

I've been looking for the last year at this Wellcraft 225 Suncruiser.

The boat has no engine and according to the dealer who has it, she will need to be completely upgraded (stringers are bad, outdrive cutout in the transom). I have no problem with the fact that this will be a project that will consume a few years and thousands of dollars. Having already refit one boat and knowing that I can do most of the work myself I am willing.

The dealer has listed this boat all over the net, for anywhere from $2000 to $650. I have spoken with the dealer and they offered to sell the boat and a trailer for 1950. I have no need for the trailer at the moment but will once the refit is complete. I have friends at a local dealer who would likely loan me a trailer to pick up the boat; they would also help me out on a trailer when the time came.

First what opinions do you have for power? I was thinking of adding a fiberglass outboard bracket and hanging twin 150's on her.

The boats cuddy is in need of new upholstery and cleaning. She has a separate head that I was considering converting to a head/shower combo. The appliances are out of date and would most likely need replaced.

As one can see from the above pic she may only require a good cleaning and polishing to restore her colors. I am assuming that the tanks will all need to be cleaned/replaced, and most all of the wiring will need to be replaced.

I think I could pick her up for $650. So what say you fellow iboaters. Pro's and Con's. Anything you can think of that I may have not thought about yet.

See I knew this forum would do it again. I didn't even think about calling Wellcraft.

Re: Thoughts on a New Project Boat

I spent a great deal of time researching this boat and found that most of them came with a merccruiser 260. Also ran into a thread here that led me to http://www.rapidomarine.com/ Seems like a good price for a long block. That may be the way to go but I am still interested in your thoughts about hanging an outboard on her.

I also came up with an idea for the cabin and cockpit sole. Do you guys think this material would work if properly sealed and cared for? http://www.lumberliquidators.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=5249

Thanks for your input.
