Thoughts on fuel tank replacement?

OK, well I am doing a floor/stringer replacement on my 20'rinker.

Right now it has a 45gal belly tank. Frankly we dont go that far, or use a lot of gas, so I realy dont need one that big. Well part of my rot problem was caused by the access cover to the tank, so I am thinking of going with a diferent setup. What kinda options are out there? Im thinking of somehting around a 20-25 gal tank. Should I stick with the belly tank? Move to a top mount tank? Other setups?? I welcome all the input I can get!!!

You might advise on type of boat, length, type of power and where the tank was in relation to the motor.

Dohhh ya.. that would proba bly help huh?

It is a 85 Rinker 205V. Its a 20' cuddy with a 190hp 3.7L alpha I sterndrive. Right now it has a 45 gal belly tank, mounted in the center of the floor ahead of the engine.

You may end up either refuelling a lot out on the water or running out with a smaller tank.

Years ago I wnated to change over from a dual can setup to a permanent tank and found a marina near me that had numerous new tanks for sale, cheap. I ended up putting it in the same spot where the old tanks were but the handling was way off due to the added weight.

imho changing to a smaller tank is a bad move
boating needs change
maybe not this year or next year but they will change
If you keep the current location (this is best)
then the hatch that caused your problem remains
If you move the tank you will change the center of gravity
this can have disastoris results
Then there is the resale end of the problem
when you decide to sell, and you will, this will lower the
number of buyers that will be interested
personally the larger the tank the better
I love that my 19' CC has a 60 gal. tank
I can plan on putting in 12.5,25.0,37.5, or 50 gallons
this makes it real easy to mix my oil. 1,2,3,or 4 quarts of oil
also I can run up to 4 trips without refills
