I just bought a 1991 Alumacraft with a great running 1991 30HP Johnson outboard on a Shorelander trailer. The boat has a console with all controls, working livewell, electric trolling motor, 2 new batteries, 2 Canon manual downriggers, numerous rod holders, full coast guard package, planer board mast and 2 planer boards, 2 fishfinders, and a bimini top.
I just paid $1000 for the entire package which I think is a great deal. I saw the ad as it was just placed on Craigslist and got in the truck and drove right there. As I was leaving, two other buyers showed up and were told they had missed the sale.

I take it that it is a 16ft boat? I have been on the look out for a good deal on a flat bottom boat. Sounds like you scored a great deal.
How about a pic?

I know somebody that is selling a boat similar to what you are talking about but it doesn't have a console and it only has a 9.9hp tiller steer motor, they are asking $2000 I believe.

I am almost tempted to sell my 1977 challenger bass boat and go buy an aluminum 16ft boat with the highest hp that the boat will handle. I also know of an x-pro fisherman that uses an aluminum flat bottom boat with a nice setup for his fishing boat.

Way to go rndn, and what a buy. I have been an advocate of craigslist since I bought my boat off it. I would bet that if you are a daily watcher of the list that by the time you went to buy it you knew then and there what a good buy was.

I have tried to pass on to the newer boat buyers how important it is to know a market before jumping in and buying anything.

Just like real estate, the value in it is what others are paying now...period.

The fact that you had several others on your tail meant you all had good knowledge of a good buy from a bad one. And in todays market, there are some out there who just need to move some toys, as well as others ready to capitalize. Good job!

Re: Thoughts on my new to me boat purchase

I don't pick it up until Saturday. I plan to repost it for sale on Craigslist for $2,000.00 after I strip most of the extras off of it. I figure I should clear a little over $1,400 or so when I'm all said and done. I bought the boat strictly for resale as I currently have and use the Crestliner in my signature.
I watch Craigslist several times each day to find these kind of deals. They are few and far between but when you find one you really need to jump on it quick before it's gone.
