Interesting welding lesson, picking up a few pointers, but back to the issue of this trailer. If it's homemade it's a duplicate of a TrailMaster trailer. I had one and it was made of 4" channel iron. Only identifing tag was in the front "V" inside the right channel. It's only a decal that is glued on. Pricing in your area is so much lower than here. I sold mine late last fall for $1000.00 and that is pretty typical of this area.

I don't think that channel iron is 4" unless you measure the horizontal part along with the vertical.
