What can I use to keep threaded fuel fitting from leaking?? Would teflon work without being damaged by gasoline and possibly clogging my carb's inlet seats??

Thanks in advance

Re: threaded fuel fittings

  • I looked high and low around here for a teflon tape that was rated for gasoline. Even hit up my buddy in the service department @ the Ford house.
  • Couldn't find any.
  • Found some tape at Lowe's that was rated for gas. I think it was rated for natural gas - not gasoline.
  • Bought it, used it, seems to work fine.

  • Months later I was in a plumbing supply house and picked up a small can of pipe dope. It is rated for many things including gasoline, gasohol, diesel, and naptha.
  • Name of product is Blue Monster PTFE Pipe Thread Sealant.
  • Next time I'll give this product a go.

Teflon tape will work. Be very careful to place it only on the threads. A stray piece will end up clogging your carb. I think automotive silicone is safe from gasoline as well, but it must be left to cure before use.

Teflon is inert and great for gas but the tape is not recommended since it can tear off in little strips while threading it in and the strips can plug up the fuel system. The stuff to use is the white teflon pipe compound that comes in about a 4 ounce tube, works great and can't plug your system. Home Depot, Lowe's, Ace Hardware has it and a tube might last you forever unless you're a plumber! Good Luck!
