three blade prop

i have a 1974 johnson 25hp with a splined three blade prop, when i have it bolted to a trestle switched off move gear lever into forward or reverse there is quite a bit of play on the prop before it engages is this normal dos,ent seem to affect engines performance on the boat.

That play is normal, also with it not running you may find you have to rotate the prop or flywheel to get it to shift into gear.

make sure the hub inside the prop is not spining
