I think I made the boat gods mad. I was going to take my new to me Mako in for service the Johnson 112 was starting very hard. I was messing with it one more time yesterday. Well today as I was getting it ready to drop off tomorrow 08-03-09 I noticed a bid if oil on the outboard. Well I lifted the cover and saw a few chunks of metal. And a rod sticking out the block.

Grrrr It looks like I will never ever get a boat on the water......

Sorry to hear, I can only imagine.

Were your revving the engine or it just went, you shouldn't go above 1500rpm when the engine is not under load.

The 11th Commandment: Thou shall not run thy motor up excessively on the muffs!

This is one reason I use the flush port on my opti and don't run it. If I have to crank it I do it on the muffs but I try to avoid it. Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck but it will just make it that sweeter when you finally get it together.

A little confused on this one. What do the muffs have to do with throwing a rod? I thought it was cooling only.

Very not good to rev the motor up out of the water. Not necessarily because of cooling but because there's no water resistance on the prop and it can easily over rev and well... throw a rod. Shouldn't go much past idle when on the muffs.
