i figured i would ask her before i hunt it down on my own.

since the bellows job and shift cable, it seems like i need to move the control for the throttle further before the rpms increase. the shift adjustments worked good (it engages into drive and reverse cleaner than before) but i need to move it more past the point of engage than before

not sure if the best place to adjust is in the control lever cable, carb or something else.

the control lever is a Merc 3000

You should be able to feel the detents for F and R in the control box. How much farther do you have to move the throttle?

i don't know how to say this, its not a ton and not a little but its noticeable ~ especially in slow maneuvers by docks, trailer ect
feels like you need to "give it more" which in turn since it has been the same for so many years almost feels like you are going to crash it

And what did she say?

As long as the throttle doesn't start to move BEFORE the shift is fully engaged, nothing to worry about...

Just pulling ya chain... ;) It was a bit weird the first time I read it through, that's why I questioned/made a joke.... :)

The sequence and timing of the shift and throttle is controlled by the shape and design of the cams inside the control box... If it varies a little it's down to the shift cable adjustment... Maybe it's slipping into forward a bit sooner and it feels like it's taking longer to start advancing throttle....

There is a throttle cable adjustment on the carb. Follow the cable back to the carb and adjust it by taking it off the carb, twisting it a few turns so the cable gets a little longer or shorter as needed then re-attach. You'll have to play with it to get it just right but it is easy to do. If you can't get it adjusted the way you want it you may well have a stretched cable and need to replace it.
