Throttle Adustment: Wheel Rude 40HP Lark VI 1964

I have a 1964 electric shift 40HP Rude Lark VI. Motor runs nice and smooth, but I need to adjust the throttle to get the best rpm range in WOT. I notice that the adjustment is a thumb wheel secured by a clamped hold point. What DIRECTION does what? Meaning if I turn the wheel towards the inner part/towards th motor, what does that do? And away does what?

Pitch is just like the axle ratio on a car/truck.

In theory, for every one revolution, of the prop, your boat should move 13.25 inches forward. However, there is at least a 10% slip.

Yes, a 12.25" would increase your RPM by about 200.

Typically, every inch in pitch is good for about 200 RPM, up or down.

Prop the engine to run at or near the top rated RPM with a light load.

You shouldn't have to adjust that wheel.

If the breaker plate is advancing, to the stop and the carb butterflies open all the way, you are already at WOT.

If you are not getting all the RPM you think you should and the above are at WOT, you are overpropped.

Thx. Admiral. Your correct this unit has synch'd spark and throttle. I will check the position of the butterfly at open throttle and leave it alone.. I have the OEM 13.25 pitch...would changing to a 12.5 help??

Not wanting to sound stupid what effect does pitch have?
