Throttle cable adjustment

I have a 1988 Nissan 70 hp with Nissan controls. The throttle does not engage in forward (gear engages just no throttle increase) until about half way through the range to full. Same thing but not as bad in reverse.

Also, it sounds as if my motor has a bit more to give whent the throttle lever is fully forward.

I've only had the motor for a couple of days.

Any suggestions?

Sounds as though you are having problems with throttle cable stretch. A new one should take care of the problem...Most times it's best to replace both the throttle and shift cable at the same time...

Stupid Question 52: Are Universal Control Cables Universal? Also, do the throttle and the shifter use the same type of cable. I would look, but Its sort of hard for me to get to the motor when the boat is in the water.

Re: Throttle cable adjustment

Universal ones are only universal if you have the correct adapters for the ends. Since you already have cables, I'm sure you have the nessesary adapters on your old ones. They are usually the same for the throttle and shift....You will need the correct length too. It's usually stamped on the cable housing, but you may have to measure...

I thought I looked all over Iboats for Nissan and Control Cable. Must not have.
