When I push remote forward to give acceleration, thats fine. But when I de-accelerate by pulling back on handle. The tower shaft does not always go back to idle. I have to manually push it back to slow engine back to idle. Is there a spring of sort that should pull this back to idle? How do I adjust?

There isn't any spring attached to the tower shaft. The tower shaft is turned by the back and forth movement of the throttle cable.

You need to get your book out and start with a basic setup for timing and idle. When you do this, you will be setting up the cable, carbs and tower shaft so that they go where they are supposed to when you move the throttle.

It sounds to me that you have slop in the linkage and all it needs is to be adjusted properly.

Re: Throttle cable adjustment

John, I removed the cable and moved tower back and forth and still binds bad. When pulling back manually it binds half way back. I disconnected the bar that connects to top of tower from under the flywheel. Now tower is free and smooth. No bind. So the bind is coming from under Flywheel. I pushed bar in and out and you can feel the binding, it is not that easy to push in. Do I need to remove flywheel? Or is there something I can spray under there?

It sounds like the tigger housing is binding. This is probably the result of corrosion or, a remote possibiliy, a mouse nest. In any event, I would not just spray something up there as you really should see what the cause is.

If your flywheel has puller bolt holes, it is easy to pull off with a puller that can be found at Pep Boys or Harbor Freight. If you don't have puller bolt holes, it gets a bit harder and calls for a special tool.

It can be done without the special tool if you are a goodl mechanic or machinist and can improvise.

John, I removed flywheel and stator. Then cleaned. The 3 bolts that hold down the braker plate had butterfly type clamps that put pressure on the breaker plate. I had to bend them back a little, to relieve pressure. Works fine now. Thanks, you da man
