Throttle Control Assembly Diagrams

I'm in the process of replacing the vinyl in my 1989 starline fish 'n ski and had to disassemble the throttle. Motor is a Mercury Alpha One. During the reinstallation process, a pin fell out of the handle and now the throttle moves forward/reverse without going into the safety lock. Anyone know of any references/resources to lookup the proper reassembly procedures? Is the next alternative is a new throttle.

Re: Throttle Control Assembly Diagrams

No need to buy a new one, Nath... I took my whole assembly apart once to lube and clean it. NOT an easy project. Geez... But all we have here is the pin and rod in the handle. It would be easier for me to show you rather than try to tell you how it goes together. It is kind of screwy...and I had to put mine together several times before I got it right. It will go together several ways. If I remember right..the pin has a notch on it. Make sure that is engaged in the rod that goes down to the bottom. As for the top bend going into the handle button...that is where it would go together a few different ways. The best thing I can tell you from memory is to put it together without the cover. Hold the rod from falling out with your hand and see if it works right. If not, put it in the other way. I hope this helps...it's been a while since I have been into one of those... As far as the manual goes...I don't think I have one that shows that version...

I've done that a few times and have a pretty good feel for how the pin and rod go together. There is a spacer that slides onto the splines before the handle. It has a few notches and pins on it. Does that have a specific position to be in before the handles goes over that?

If I remember right, the spacer can be rotated for different neutral positions. Just make sure it lines up with the pin from the handle when it is in the neutral position and you should be ok.

I can email you a couple of pices. I think the problem I was having is the spacer alignment. I can set it up so that the "cutaway" is where the pin would be and should allow the rod to go through to the holes behind the spacer (locking it into the neutral position). I'll try that this weekend and let you know how it goes.

Thanks again for the help!

GOT IT! I had to adjust the rod, wasn't seated to allow the pin to a completely engage. The real test will be on the water.
