I run into a curious problem…. In my mercruiser 3.0 the throttle control is acting like an ignition switch.

When I tried to start the boat (in neutral) nothing happens. When I move the throttle control lever to forward, the engine starts (the strange thing is I did not even have to turn the key to ignition).

Is the boat possessed or became self aware and playing tricks on me. Help!

A week ago it started fine. I did not do any work on the electrical system

Could be the neutral safety switch in the remote is getting power when you shift into fwd. That is not good, need to inspect the controller.

Possible short to power from the lanyard switch wiring or power trim button wiring
