Throttle Delay

My yamaha 130 is experiencing throttle delay. When I'm applying throttle while at the dock, in neutral, no problems. When in gear, I throttle up to a point then I have to advance slowly or else she'll stall. If I wait in a slightly advanced throttle position for approx 10 seconds, she'll all of a sudden wake up and come to life. Once under way, no problems. Stop, fish, try to get underway again, same story.
The one thing I havent checked on the water is if the cable is actually opening the carb while in gear. I'd imagine it is since there are no issues while in neutral.
I'm gonna check that and report back. Just figured I'd get a feel for what might be wrong before I get down to the marina.

sounds like the same problem ive got its revs fine in neutral but under load its either stalls or takes ages to pick up im thinking possibly spark plugs ive ordered some so ill let you know when i fit them

First thing to check is the timer base. Make sure that it?s advancing with the throttle arm. Make sure it?s not sticky. If not check the spark plugs for water on them. If no water check compression. If ok there it?s most likely in the carbs. Remove and clean them.

I'm guessing that this is a 2-stroke. Timing and synchronization is always important on a 2-stroke, but loss of lubrication - or binding - in the linkage can cause all sorts of problems. Make a really good inspection of all linkages to the carb and timing plate. Lube it up as it should be, and check timing and sync if you can.
