Throttle/Gear line lenght

I have an 18FT closed bow boat that needs a set of cables for throttle/gear how do I go about measuring the lenght?

measure from control, to stern, then from side to center of motor, add aleast 2 feet. they recommend 3. look on the existing cable sheath, for a number. that will lead you to the replacement.
