Throttle/Gear linkage? question for 1991Johnson 25

Friday as I was throttling back to ease in on my fishing spot my motor would'nt slow all the way down and stayed in gear. It just kept going (at a slower speed). I finally just turned the key to shut it down. Now it did not do this when I started up and putted around real slow, but when I throttled up to full song it would'nt slow to idle or dis-engage the forward gear. I own a 91 Sea Nymph 155 aluminum bass boat with a Johnson 25, all remote. I own a Seloc Manual and can make some repairs provided they are'nt too complicated. Does this sound like a remote problem or is it something in the motor. Thanks in advance.... joebob

Hi Joebob

Sounds like your throttle cable is sticking and causing erratic operation. You will need to replace the cable to solve the problem. They can be purchased here on the Iboats site or the dealer. You will need to disassemble the control box and take it loose at the motor to replace it. Once you get it removed, measure the length and purchase a new one the same. It's pretty straightforward to do. While you're in there, I would also replace the shift cable for good measure, as they are probably about the same age.

Cables

Thanks Rick

My control box is not mounted on the surface, only the lever is exposed. Can you give me some advice as what to expect when I try to extract my remote control box from the bulkhead. My Seloc manual only covers external mounted boxes. Thanks again....joebob.
