Hey guys!

I have a 1985 force I got and when I push on the throttle it goes way too far down before it starts going. I mean it almost goes below the dash! Does this just mean the cable is too long? Any ideas how I could fix this?

When you first start to push it forward does the throttle linkage move on the motor? I'm guessing NO!! This means the gears inside the throttle unit are stripped and only start to re=engage once you move it to a position where there are Teeth on the gears. Remove the Unit and take a look inside.

Yes I concur with WOG's assessment above, unless the controls and engine are not of the same manufacture and somehow rigged up to hopefully work.

Moved this into the Steering & Controls section.

thapharm - What do you mean by "when I push on the throttle it goes way too far down before it starts going."

The control needs to be moved a lot to get the boat to move?

Look at the cables in the motor as someone moves the control. Which cable moves first - The throttle or shift cable?

My suggestion...take a picture of the lever in neutral. Have a person look at the cable at the motor and take a picture of the lever when he tells you the cable first starts moving.
