Throttle got stuck at full... Any thoughts

Hey all,
I've got a 2001 60hp Mercury Outboard on a pontoon boat. I was out this weekend and the engine was running great. When I backed off the throttle, the engine stayed running at full. I pushed the throttle forward and back and it finally slowed down, but I've got to figure out what is causing the problem. Any thoughts where to start?

If your engine is a 2 stroke the spring in the throttle lever may have broken but it sounds like just lubricating it might take care or the problem.
