I have a 1987 20 hp Evinrude. E20CRCUR. Last summer I started having issues with a pin on the throttle lever assembly. It would come out of its hole and the throttle would become disconnected. I could shut down the engine and realign and insert the pin but so would like a permanent fix. I imagine I will eventually loose the pin and maybe the spring to the lake. From the parts diagram it doesn’t look like there is anything securing this pin. What am I missing? Also any advise on how to bend the spring would be helpful. I’ve been using a vise grip pliers and there has to be a better way.

Aside from a OEM part how about just a small bolt with a nylon lock nut. that would keep it in place . if needed to hold the spring install 2 extra washers and keep the bolt loose a bit to allow movement.

if the original pin extends below the female section and has a hole in it just install a small cotter pin or bent wire to keep it from slipping upwards . if no hole is present in the pin/bolt and it does extends below... drill a hole the install a cotter pin.

The missing pin is part of that vertical lever assembly.-----And they are proud of it judging by how many beer tokens they want for one.------Fabricate something.-----Or find one on E-bay , or try ----evinrudeparts.ca----if in Canada.
