Well from the top...I have a 1995 Mariah Davanti 215 with a Merc 350 I/O. The only real work that has been done on it since it started acting up was the shift cable was replaced.
The motor will not increase past about 2200 rpms IN FORWARD gear in the water. It WILL rev up just fine out of the water IN FORWARD gear. Now, the motor revs up just fine IN REVERSE in the water and out of the water. Basically the only time the throttle won't advance is going forward in the water (If I could only drive around in reverse... :D ) Any ideas guys. I did change the Fuel/Water separator, all connections appear to be in order. It seems like a rigging problem or something between the shift and throttle cables maybe. Thanks in advance.

i would look at the carb with the flame arrestor off and the motor OFF and see if the throtel plates are moveing the same in forward and reverse

if there not opening in forward but due in reverse then you have some type of problem with the control box

tommays

The shift cable from the outdrive to the motor was replaced. I'll jump in there and see what the plates are doing in the carb when I move the shift lever. Still a little confused on the fact that out of the water she goes in FWD gear and revs up just fine. Must be because under a load it's not getting enough gas huh?

In That Case,......... You've got to see Why the throttle cable coming from the Control Handle, isn't connected to the Carb Right,..........

Does the linkage at the Carb Move when you advance the Handle ????
Does the Throttle Open when the handle is Pushed ????

If Not,...... I'd take a Closer Look at the Controller/Handle end of things...........

Which Shift Cable Was Replaced ????

I don't think I could have screwed up the shift cable installation. It was removed and replaced by the shop when they changed my Bellows and they left the "Engine end" just kind of coiled up on the engine. I'll double check everything. Thanks again

Here's the latest...The throttle plates open up at exactly the same place during the throw of shift lever for both reverse and forward. Gas squirts the same for both...this is really confusing...

Does the throttle plates open all the way when you go to wide open throttle?

Re: Throttle problems...MORE INFO for you...

you get that figured out yet Bob,reason I ask is I had exact same problem with a boat I purchased sept. last year.350-260hp-rochester 4barrel. I can tell you what I did (none of it solved problem)plugs-points- cap- roter-remanufactured carb.At time of purcase seller had receipts for complete rebuild on outdrive from local marina.350 had JB weld repair on block-I'm in the prosess of building new engine..If I were you I would listen to these guys and be checking those out drive cables---let us know what you find out---------
