Re: throttle problems

what year, probably carb disassembly cleaning, blowing out with compressed air, reassembling with a new carb rebuild kit. get the kit with a new float.

Re: throttle problems

Hi tfisher....can you post a year or model number and maybe some history on the engine? Be good to know if the engine is new to you or if you've had it for a while and how it ran.

Top coat answer would maybe be the link and sync maybe off letting the throttle plates open to quick. Sucks in to much fuel and not enough air. Once the air catches up, the engine picks up. But...like I said...just a top coat answer until we find out a little more.

If you know, is the compression good and do you have good spark at the plugs? Last time carbs where rebuilt?

Re: throttle problems

Great engines tfisher. I run a 50hp 84' for many years and always liked it.....gave it up for an 89' 50hp.....dumb move.

If ya' really want to get the engine back in good form, invest in a service manual, OEM type. It will guide you through the servicing of the engine in all aspecks of it. It will save you a lot of $ in the long run.

The set up of your engine is simple and the carbs can be taken off and rebuilt in a couple hours. Would be a good place to start. Finish this up with a sync and link and go from there. Get compression readings and check the spark. The spark on your engine should jump a 1/2" gap with a hot lighting like spark. A spark tester can be gotten at most auto parts stores very reasonably. Most things pertaining to a good tune up can be done with a good tool box.
