Throttle range issue, routing out problems.

Having a little trouble getting the full range out of the control box and engine with the new cable. It was tuned for the broken one, but namely I want to know exactly what this part of the engine is/does and what the switch that it touches, for now.

I dont believe this was "activating" before the cable replacement either. And I have a suspicion its not supposed to. Like, thinking its a cutoff switch for when the throttle goes out beyond its bounds.

Its a '78. And i dont know what im looking at man, thats why im asking. In the context of the video, its the thing the camera is pointed at, hard to miss.
Ive sorted the throttle range now but still want to know what this is or does.

The switch is there so that starter motor will only crank in neutral.-----The linkage arm is supposed to only allow a fast idle in neutral.---It also prevents shifting to neutral if throttle is fully open and in gear.

I remember our 57 35hp having pretty much the same Interlock
The Cable Length should be Adjustable where Casing anchors to the Motor. It isn't too difficult to set it to permit full travel of both the Linkage on the Motor and the Throttle Lever

In my opinion it should be easy to understand how it works.----Easy to see how it is adjusted to work as designed.

Oddly the one Linkage a lot of people end up adjusting, without understanding how it works, or why, is the Linkage between the Ignition Timing and Carbs

It's actually to prevent going into full throttle in reverse. I had a 1976 25HP Evinrude that was the same way. Pretty cool system. Pretty sure if you shift into reverse, you won't be able to advance the throttle all the way. In a small john boat with a tiller handle motor, it keeps you from going too fast in reverse and filling the boat with water when it sloshes over the transom!!

Correct, im guilty of messing with it before someone let me know that its not the right one and all i was doing was desyncing the throttle.

Its nice to know its an anti-idiot feature. Should help keep me from blowing anything up. Also, with my boat being probably 350-400 lbs with me and fuel, is 25mph about expected for a 35 horsepower motor? After getting everything adjusted by feel and ear thats the absolute top speed when planed out. Give or take 0.5mph for wind and tall weeds.

Want to know just so i know whether or not it has more to give. The compression and state of all the major components are pretty peachy so if theres a possibility that its got a few more miles per hour i can wring out of it id like to do so. Im suspicious because my ass got handed to me by a '59 sea star speed queen sporting the same engine as me even though they're heavier and had their awning up.
