I have a 1988 Bayliner Capri w/Force Outboard Engine 85hp
When I throttle forward or reverse, about 1/4 of the way from Neutral, I hear a rattling sound. I also feel it on the throttle handle. It only occurs about 1/4 forward or reverse. Once I exceed that, its normal

I recently changed the gear lube with correct lube I purchased from a marine store thinking it might be that but still makes that noise.

Any ideas why. I uploaded engine model and serial.

No AllDodge but here is a video click in my Dropbox. I had my friend throttle it and hold it where it makes that sound. You'll here it. https://www.dropbox.com/s/5ck1pww848...%20pm.mov?dl=0

FYI Sometimes, when I start the engine I hear a loud pop. Think it's a backfire but not sure. Its unpredictable when it happens.

In your video watch the prop, it's starting to engage, when it stops the prop is engaged. You don't ease the throttle forward or reverse, you should move it briskly into gear, just slightly more then 1/4.

Yep, that's my take on the issue

Don't think you have a problem
