I'm not sure if this thread will get moved or what not but - my question is with my Merc 470 - I have to replace my throttle cable and remote shift cable. It was getting very hard to move the throttle lever, and eventually getting hard to shift (yep, replaced the lower shift cable). I can't seem to locate the correct cables. The current cables mount to post on the engine (for throttle) and a post on the reverse lock. I can find cables with the adjustable plastic pieces to mount on the posts but the throttle lever end just has a steel loop - the ones I need are threaded like the teleflex ends and just take a small brass fitting with a post on it that accepts a cotter pin. I'm pretty sure it is impossible to convert to a teleflex cable but it sure would be nice! Anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance!

A 33c Redjacket(Morse?) comes standard with threaded ends, should work fine, youve already found the mc doodads for engine end of cables,(Merc adapters is what I hear them called)

'Preciate the responses guys - I'm sure it's kinda hard to imagine what I'm trying to talk about above so what I'll do is take a few pictures and post what I'm trying to do, and see if it is possible. I'll post in a few moments...

Awright fellas, this is what I've got... In one photo you'll see a standard Teleflex 3300 cable with both ends threaded. I picked 2 of these up today without looking at them prior to walking out of the store. The other picture shows what used to be in the boat... I have to say that it is amazing the difference from the old to new cables! What I had is junk! But is there a way or a kit to get these 3300's to work with my application?

Well never mind guys, I feel kinda stupid now. I go into the marine parts store and they offer a $15 dollar plastic adapter kit to make these cables work on my Mercruiser. Thank god!

Glad your good to go. When I am getting something I'm not sure on and there's more option than a few, I bring what I got in there to match the ends and length.

Yeah, I guess I learned from this - I'll definitly be making sure what I pick up is what I need in the future. Plus it was my brother in law who was paying so I just kinda grabbed them off the shelf and got outta the store before he changed his mind! Anyway; I got the cables in but I'm very dejected now because I cannot for the life of me adjust the shift cables. I get it so it is in gear in forward and then slips in reverse. In gear in reverse and slips in forward. I get it in between and it slips in both forward and reverse! After about 6 beers and lots of the hot sun I had to give up! It is like my remote shift cable doesn't engage enough. It doubt it is a problem with my lower shift cable because that is brand new, doesn?t bind or anything. I tried to adjust as much as I could out of the throttle lever side but it still isn?t good enough? Ugh?boats!
