Throttle shifter control help please

Hey all, I have a 93 Omc king cobra and the side mount control broke yesterday.

The red button/switch that you pull up on to move it in and out of gear broke seems to have become disconnected and is just sort of hanging there. The selector is stuck in neutral.

Can anyone advise on how to remove the selector and also how to approach repairing this?

Hi, You can go on marineengine.com and put in the model of your
engine/outdrive and print out the section for the shift control. I had one
apart last year, and if I remember. there was one bolt holding the lever on
that was tough to get out, but the rest was straight forward. Good luck, John

It looks like the set screw on the bottom used to remove handle can only be accessed while in reverse. ...I can't shift out of neutral. Anyone have advise?

Hi jmz, which shifter do you have? If it is the concealed OMC, the red cap lifts a lever that
allows the shifter to be moved front and back. Perhaps you can move the lever manually somehow. John

It is the concealed shifter with the red shift rod lock out handle. The lever broke at the handle ( I think this is fairly common) The part like lot's of OMC stuff is obsolete but you can get an aluminum billet replacement for about $90.00 on Ebay or some of the parts houses that specialize in OMC stuff have them. I was already planning on switching to a twin stick Lavorsi shifter on a pod so I'm not going to spend the money.

I butchered it up and took out the shift rod lockout and am going to use it this way for a week or two before I put the new shifter and throttle in.
