Re: Throttle up to start

Like I said, the gasket looks pretty new. Are those bolts suppose to tighten using a torque wrench? The were all pretty easy to get off. Like I said, the one was very easy. I didn't see any signs of ware inside the cylinders or the pistons other than the pitting on #2.

The one piston with the bubbles.NOT right.Getting hot?
It looks like it's sucking air somewhere?
Check the air/fuel screws. See where they're set?
Then check the fuel pump and where it mounts.
#2 is where the fuel pump is located and it operates the pump.

It was getting hot before we replaced the Impeller. Water is flowing good now. So should I put the Head back on? If so should I use a gasket sealer and torque wrench or just make sure it good a tight? I will look at the Carb Air screws.

Thanks,

Re: Throttle up to start

BTW, when you said check the fuel pump do you want me to take it off? I checked the filter and it looks ok. What do you think about getting a water separator and a line filter?

Thanks Jerry,

NEW gasket.
No sealer.
Torque at 20# stagger the pattern.
Yes take the pump apart. The plate it's attached to,make sure the gasket is good and the screws tight.
Yes add an in line filter.
I have a water/fuel seperating filter and a small filter between the pump and the carb.
The small filter can be put before the pump or after.
Wally world sells G-2 or G-12 depending on the hose size.

My brother retired from GM.I worked there in 69.
The only way to get the US back on track.Buy made in the USA.

Re: Throttle up to start

Ok will order one today, then put in the water separator and filter today or tomorrow. The hose is 3/8 from the transom to the fuel pump. But from the tank to the transom it looks a lot bigger. Is that where the separator should go? I am sure they connectors are all 3/8. I think the hose is just thick. Can you recommend a good separator?

I am just going to replace the fuel pump gasket if I am going to take it apart. Why not right?

That cool, Yes we better or we won't be doing anything but flipping burgers if we don't start buying American!

Thanks Jerry,

Brian

I found a gasket at a local marina, torqued at 20#. Did another compression test and same thing. 60# on number 2. I take it that isn't good and will need to replace the piston and rings? Uggg!

Re: Throttle up to start

Jerry, do you still want me to still take the fuel pump out or should I deal with this cylinder first? I am guessing that the fuel pump wouldn't effect compression.

Thanks!

Jerry, here is the motor I was looking at. Looks like a 89 but waiting to get the Serial number from him. IMG_20130921_125956.jpgIMG_20130921_130131.jpgIMG_20130921_130140.jpgIMG_20130921_130209.jpg
