Throttle Will Not Go In Reverse... starting to panic

After replacing the bellows and impeller on my 89' Alpha 1 MR and reinstalling the drive I cant get the trrottle to return to neurtal without force and cannot even attempt to get it in reverse. I pulled the drive to check and everything that I can see is in place correctly. Im freaking out a lil. What went wrong? I followed the manual and didnt touch the shift cable other that to pull out 1.5 feet of it to swing the bell housing aside. Any ideas?? Thank you.

Was the drive in forward when you removed it?

Are you sure you installed the lower unit correctly, The splined shaft is turned fully clockwise for fwd and when the drive is together the shoe is in a straight line when if fwd gear.

Ha, that was exactly it. I must have accidentally turned the shift lever when I reinstalled the lower unit. It was backwards. Three gasket sets and a ton of four letter words later... shes fixed. Thank you.

Glad you found it. It will all go back together 99 ways the wrong way... but it only goes back together 1 way the correct way.

Maybe that's why I seem to spend 99% more time here than I do on the lake, lol. j/k
