I am installing a new aerator pump for my livewell. Would you recommend using 3m 5200 or 4200. I have a 1989 basstracker, it's aluminum.

Will 5200 make it a pain in the future if I have to remove and replace with new pump?

Yes.
4200 is fine and less permanent. It is rated for below water line use.

"3M? Marine Fast Cure 4200 Adhesive Sealant
One part general purpose polyurethane reacts chemically with moisture for flexible bonds to wood, fiberglass, gelcoat, plastic and metals. Forms a watertight seal on joints and boat hardware above and below the waterline. Formulated to allow for disassembly of parts." -- 3m website.

quick dry is well worth the money. 1 week cure time vs. 1 day.

I have seen 4200 fail underwater, use the 5200. It will be harder to take off but its not impossible. I would be more concerned about water intrusion than replacement ease. 5200 is more of an adhesive than 4200. 4200 is just a sealer.

They are both adhesive sealants and will accomplish your goal. You can use anti bond 2015or a similar product to get 5200 off if you ever have to and it will peel out just like old grimy silicone

Guess you have never seen the 4200 fail! Op, good luck with your project.
