On my fiberglass Stratos 201FS, I have a Lowrance indash depth finder. The transducer is just laying in the bottom of the hull under the battery shelf. My question is: What is the correct permanent mounting procedure for this transducer. Thanks Brian

Clean the area. Glue with a good bed of epoxy.

Use a good epoxy, adjust the transducer so that it is aimed straight down (allowing for the taper or rise of the hull). Make sure that you don't mix the epoxy aggressively and get a lot of air bubbles in it,as the air affects the performance.

I've have heard that it is a good idea to place the transducer in water at spots where you are looking to mount the unit in order to check the response at different locations.Due to the characteristics of the hull(fiberglas)etc, the transducer may perform better in one spot compared to another next to it.

sounds like a good idea,, but the transducer must be 'hard bonded to the hull in order for it to work well.. .i.e. epoxy...

i was wonderin' if could use epoxy putty.. better to 'bond-the-taper' a big gap to fill an way way less chance of air bubs....

Jetcrusr69
I agree with 93Evinrude some boats only have a small area good for transducer. Build a small Dam out of clay and fill with water, and test tranduser. When you find a good spot Mark it, clean it get good and dry then do epxoy thing like suggested. Might also check with boat manufacture and see if they can pin point best location.
