Boston Whalers used the brass tubes with flared ends for years. They are not easy to replace. You need special tubes, flaring tools and "O" rings to re-create.

If you want to read up on the process, go to: www.continuouswave.com

I replaced my brass tubes, on my Whaler with schedule 40 "thin wall" PVC tubing. The bilge well to transom tube on my 15' was about 12" long.

I used pipe "couplers" as the flares on each end. I cut a slice off of the end of the couplers and used those as the flares. I glued the coupler slices on with PVC glue and sealed with 3M 5200. Worked great, looks great.

Benny i prefer this type, i can seal it from inside and out, so i know no water infiltrates the transom. i install them with the nut on the outside, and cut off the excess pipe.http://www.iboats.com/Thru_Hull_Str...29253778--**********.151558715--view_id.56451
with this type plug. http://www.iboats.com/AluminumTwist...9254091--**********.151558715--view_id.343899

I used one of these on my 14' McKee when I installed a bilge pump. Much easier to install and seal. It took me two months to find one long enough to work as the hull is so thick.:(
I came dangerously close to using a brass drain tube as the smaller bilge hose fits inside this.
