Dont know if this is the right place to post this? I'm installing a bilge pump thru the hull of the inside of my kayak for use on my bait tank. Has anyone ever used 3M 5200 sealant to seal up the fittings of the pump? I just want to make sure I'm will do it correctly before making a hole on my kayak. Any steps and/or advice would greatly be appreciated.

Re: Thru Hull Fittings

wiseguy....Yea, it will work, but if you ever want to remove the fitting,it wont happen,5200 is a one time adhesive, once its on....never coming off, i suggest you use 4000uv as it is removable.Clean both surfaces with acetone, apply sealant to inside surfaces of outer flange of thru-hull,and outside surface, tighten 3/4 of the way...let cure, tighten remaining until tight. You may want to install a one-way valve if the boat isnt unsinkable........ Go Fishin'

I agree- if you have a fiberglass boat.
One other consideration- if you have a plastic (rotomolded) kayak you might be better off making a gasket from a piece of rubber. I'm not too sure how well the caulk will seal against that material.

Yeah, the Kayak is made of plastic. I want to make sure that 5200 will work for this case.
