Need your opinion, pro & con, of thru hull transducer on a aluminum boat. Thinking of a new purchase. Your comment will help my decision. thanks in advance.

Re: thru hull transducer

My one experience with a through-hull transducer was bad, Alex.

The problem was (and still is) that sonars wear out, fail and become obsolete almost as fast as PCs. Then you are stuck with an in-hull obsolete (or failed) device, along with sealing and leakage risks.

Since then I stick exclusively with transom mounts.

Good luck. :)

alexc ,

I do not believe a transducer will "shoot" through aluminum. Are you talking about one that hangs down below the boat, through the hull?

In either case, I'm with JB on attaching anything expendable permanantly to the hull.

I was thinking inside the boat. My question now is - will it work inside an aluminum boat. Thanks for your comment.

Re: thru hull transducer

You can not use a through hull transducer on an aluminum boat. The sonar waves can not penetrate the aluminum.
