I just noticed the thrust plate is sheared off. Is there an easy way to change it? I fear the stubs from the old one is in the unit. Is this a problem?

This is on a 1986 18' ebtide, 4.3L OMC with co

Further review, seems to show that the drive is a bit off to the starboard side, which caused the thrust plate to be sheared off when tilting back down between to support arms or what ever they are called. Is there any way to adjust the drive so that it is more centered between those arms.

On a side note , where can I find the matching paint for the cobra drive? The arms scrapped of some of the paint too..

It Sounds like you've Hit something,.......... Quite Hard.............

Once you've Replaced the parts that are Sheared Off,.........
Things will come back Into Alignment.............

I Don't Think you're quite ready for Paint just yet,.............

if the drive is not cetered in the gimbal ring that can happen. you may have a worn out lower pin and bushing, worn upper gimbal ring bushings or the bushings in the pivot pins that hold the bell housing to the gimbal ring. my commercial guys running cobras and sx volvos go through at least one lower pin and bushing a year. if your having lower pin/bushing problems there is a cure that is not in any manual but I got it nailed :) :) .
nailed it by 91 :)

How do I get to the inside of the drive unit to get those locking clips and install them on the new thrust plates? Or is this a boat repair job?
rodbolt: Not sure what your cure is.

Bondo: granted I am not ready for paint, but when I am , I will need to find the matching paint to use.

Thanks.
