My 5.7 liter Mercruiser has the Thunderbolt ignition.

Is their difference between the Thunderbolt ignition versus a standard ignition with the points, rotor, condensor?

TB has no points, & it has an ignition amplifier.....

Ahh, very good. So, no setting the points. Is this ignition amplifier reliable?

I used my last set of points in 1973 when i put a kit on a CZ motorcycle ?

So i would say its the way to go

The T-Bolt IV is about the Most Dependable thing on your Boat.......
