Thunderbolt IV Module

A buddy and I are preparing to make a trip from Pittsburgh to Louisville via a 1984 Sea Ray SRV210 cuddy, a trip of 600 miles. Two years ago, we took this boat from Louisville to Kentucky Lake, a trip of 340 miles.

The engine has 585 hours on it. Before the trip two years ago, I changed the ignition sensor to the new style and replaced the cap and wires. I'm replacing the coil for this trip. My question is this: Should I trust the ignition module for the 30-hour run time of this trip? The boat starts and runs very well.

You can never guarantee any part is gonna last.Why are you worried?Why change the coil?Something wrong?
If it works now there is no reason that it wouldn't last.J

the tb4 modules are pretty tough. No guarantees as with any electrical device, but as the dealer here told me....I sell 90 distributor modules (sensor inside the dist under the cap) for every one of the tb4 modules (amplifier). it is VERY expensive and no longer available. They have a replacement number for it but have not had to deal with that yet. Also, get the trouble shooting chart and a meter to go along on your trip. Sounds like an awsome trip.

I sure wouldn't replace it, you might carry a spare one if it makes you feel better. I for one would trust the one with 600 hours more than a brand new one. Electronic stuff has a way of failing in the first few hours or lasting a long time.

Thanks everybody. I changed the coil because as far as I can tell, the one installed is original from 26 years ago. There were what appeared to be some hairline surface cracks on the top of it. I agree wholeheartedly with Don S. about electrical components and infant mortality. So with that said, I'm taking the old coil with me on the trip!

I do have the TB IV troubleshooting chart and it will also be going on the trip.
