Guys, I need all the help I can get before I start tearing the motor apart. Ist start of this season after I fogged the engine last November and I have a ticking noise which was not there last year. I did not pull the spark plug before attempting to start the engine(Electric start).
It took 5 or 6 tries before the engine even turned. My worry: Could the oil in the cylinders have created too much compresion and when the engine finally started did some damage to either the valves or the piston rods, I still get full RPMS though, however rough idle that I never had before.
The noise seems to be coming from the valve cover, but the valves had been adjusted last september the engine was running like new. 285 hours on it. New fuel and new fuel filter instatlled before start up. Any thoughts? Please!

Well, I suspect the fuel punp enough where I am thinking of replacing it just to see if the noise goes away. I checked for suction restrictions from the tank to the pump and its all good. New fuel ,clean fuel tank and new fuel filter. I guess it would not hurt to replace it. It's 7 years old and once in 2006 I forgot to open the vent valve and it collapsed a 9 gallon tank before it started ticking. Maybe I damaged the pump back then.I hope that's the case and not a damaged rod or valve or something else that will require a tear down.

Thanks for the reply, I apreciate it.
