Tiller Handle Swap

So, I have 2 good running motors, a '55 Johnson Seahorse 25hp tiller and a '56 Evinrude Big Twin electric start set up for use with controls. Obviously I want more horses and the electric start for my boat. Does anyone have instructions or can anyone tell me how to swap the tiller handle from the Johnny to the Rude. I have been told it can be swapped and sure looks that way. Thanks.

It's quite easy. Undo the screw that holds the twist grip on and remove it. Don't lose the spring inside. Then undo the 2 small phillips screws under it and the one big screw at the pivot point and the handle will come apart in half.

Thank you. It looks easy, I just wanted to make sure there were no tricks to it. I'm not big on suprises.

The way this was set up it was quite different than you described. I had to remove the large bolt on both motors at the inside of the hinge point of the tiller handle on the one motor and where the throttle advance was on the other motor. Then at the end of the geared shaft near the rear of the motor, I needed to remove the small screw that kept pressure on the toothed gear that couples with the perpindicular shaft that turns to advance the throttle. With that screw out, I was able to slide the shaft out. I did this on both motors, swapped the tiller handle and its' geared shaft for the control setup and reassembed it in the reverse order I took it apart. The whole process took about 20 minutes.
